Transplant Program Description
The Atrium Health Transplant Center, part of the Carolinas Medical Center, stands as one of North Carolina’s most active transplant centers. The Metrolina Nephrology transplant nephrology team, working hand in hand with the Atrium team has been there from the beginning, actively leading the kidney-pancreas program since the first kidney transplant in 1970. It is among only six centers in the United States that operate a hospital-based organ procurement program, leading to reduced average waiting times for organ recipients. With Metrolina’s team of five transplant nephrologists, provides ongoing care to nearly 2,000 kidney transplant patients and serves patients from all over the region. In 2023, our nephrologists evaluated organ offers and served as the primary physician to patients, accomplishing more than 160 kidney transplants and participated in numerous other multi-organ transplant procedures.

Role Description
This is a full-time role as a Transplant Nephrologist at Metrolina Nephrology Associates located in Charlotte, NC. As a Transplant Nephrologist, you will be responsible for providing specialized medical care to patients with kidney disease who are in need of a kidney transplant. Your day-to-day tasks will include evaluating patients, evaluating organ offers, coordinating with transplant surgeons and other healthcare professionals, managing post-transplant care, and ensuring the best outcomes for patients.

Qualifications
- Medical degree and completion of residency in Internal Medicine or Nephrology
- Fellowship training in Transplant Nephrology
- Board certification or eligibility in Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology
- Experience in managing kidney transplant patients, including pre- and post-transplant care
- Strong knowledge of current evidence-based practices in Transplant Nephrology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based healthcare environment

Role Description
This is a full-time role as a Nephrologist at Metrolina Nephrology Associates located in Charlotte, NC. As a Nephrologist, you will be responsible for providing specialized medical care to patients with kidney disease. Your day-to-day tasks will include providing treatment of end stage renal disease (ESRD), manage continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), including clinic visits and prescribe and manage plasmapheresis and leukapheresis. You will also be responsible for performing dialysis access procedures in our Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC), including: fistuolgrams, angioplasties, thrombectomies, tunneled catheter procedures, and peritoneal dialysis catheter procedures. Responsible for shared evening and weekend call for nephrology problems. Travel to locations within commuting distance when on call, to cover rounds, or as needed for vacation and holiday coverage.
Qualifications
- Medical degree and completion of residency in Internal Medicine or Nephrology
- Fellowship training in Nephrology ASDIN certified for dialysis access procedures
- Experience in renal failure, chronic kidney disease, ESRD, hypertension, in-center hemodialysis, home dialysis including hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis, CVVHD, CVVHDF, plasmapheresis and leukapheresis
- Experience in dialysis access procedures (tunneled catheter placement and exchanges, angiogram, angioplasty, endovascular stent placement, fistuolgrams, thrombolysis/thrombectomy, accessory vein ablation, peritoneal dialysis catheter placement.)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based healthcare environment

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience. Clinic experience preferred.
- Must hold a current and valid NC RN/LPN license. Current CPR certificate.
- Knowledge of nursing processes, health care systems, structure, functions and community resources.
- Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nursing guidelines and clinic policies and procedures.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, EMR’s and Outlook. Competent in Learning Management Systems.

Job Description
A non-exempt position responsible for managing clinical trials, excluding regulatory binder management. Responsible for conducting the operation components of clinical trials.
Access to a patient population of up to 25,000. Opportunity to serve 7 office locations and up to 45 dialysis units. Work directly with multiple physicians. Manages up to five studies dependent on status and logistics of the trial. Conducts ten to twenty patient visits a week.
Job Responsibilities
- Attends study related investigator meetings and SIV’s
- Complete required study training including IVRS, EDC, protocol training, etc.
- Reviews informed consent for clarity and accuracy
- Organizes and conducts in workflow meetings
- Conducts and coordinates study training for staff outside of the research department.
- Identify potential trial patients
- Consent according to protocol and regulatory requirements
- Screens potential candidates
- Randomizes patients per protocol and MNA research policy
- Tasks are responded to within 48 hours
- Prepare for and conduct study visits
- Maintains source documentation
- Interviews and evaluates subject for adverse events
- Assess IP compliance for each subject and educate as necessary
- Communicates regularly with the research manager, PI and providers regarding subject related issues.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Recommend a degree in a research or health related field.
- Two years’ experience in research or a medical field or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of health care field and research protocols/procedures and any tasks related to the research department.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information.
- Knowledge of ICH regulations and GCPs.
- Skills in performing multiple tasks appropriately as well as understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Skill in organizational management of all aspects of a clinical trial and documentation of patient source records.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding research protocols and processes.

Metrolina Nephrology Associates offers a summer internship program designed to provide students with hands-on experience in healthcare administration and operations within a specialty medical practice.
A non-exempt internship position within the Health Information Management (HIM)/Medical Records department responsible for assisting with document management workflows, patient record maintenance, and departmental operational projects while gaining experience working within the Acumen Epic electronic health record system and HIPAA-compliant healthcare environment.
Job Duties to include but not limited to:
- Assist with processing incoming faxes for multiple practice locations and routing documentation appropriately within the EMR
- Assign document types, descriptions, scanning levels, and service dates to documents within the Acumen Epic EHR System
- Assist with importing scanned document batches into patient records
- Work assigned Acumen Epic work queues including Close the Loop items, In Basket Messages, and failed faxes
- Assist with investigating and resolving failed fax transmission reports
- Support the HIM team in maintaining organized and accurate electronic patient records
- Assist with the release of patient medical records to healthcare providers in accordance with compliance and confidentiality standards
- Forward dialysis patient documentation to dialysis centers when appropriate
- Assist with identifying and updating patient records
- Answer incoming telephone calls and assist with routing inquiries to the appropriate department
- Assist the HIM manager with departmental projects including data gathering, report generation, and workflow improvement initiatives
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies and procedures
- Promote professional and courteous communication with staff and external stakeholders
- Contribute to team efforts by assisting with departmental workflow needs
Requirements
- Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program. Coursework in healthcare administration, health information management, public health, or business preferred but not required.
- Experience: Previous experience in an office environment preferred but not required. Health care office experience is a plus.
- Personal Qualities: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Must be proactive, dependable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional healthcare environment.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft office programs including outlook and word required. Excel experience preferred.

A non-exempt internship position within the Value Based Care (VBC) department responsible for assisting with patient outreach initiatives, social support resource verification, and operational support activities related to chronic care management and population health programs. The intern will gain exposure to value-based care models, patient engagement strategies, and healthcare operational workflows within a nephrology practice.
Job Duties to include but not limited to:
- Assist with patient outreach initiatives for Chronic Care Management (CCM) patients who have not recently engaged in program communications
- Contact patients by phone to verify contact information, communication preferences, and assist with engagement in care management services
- Assist with Patient Activation Measures (PAM) outreach including preparation for follow-up PAM surveys and phone administration of surveys
- Assist with verifying and updating regional community social support resources including food banks, transportation services, and other support services used for patient referrals
- Assist with documenting patient outreach activities in appropriate electronic systems
- Summarize outreach results and activity output using predetermined reporting templates
- Participate in training related to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), patient activation strategies, and value-based care programs
- Observe care management and ESRD team workflows to gain exposure to patient education strategies and optimal dialysis start initiatives
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
- Contribute to team efforts by supporting departmental initiatives and outreach projects
Requirements
- Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program. Coursework in healthcare administration, health information management, or public health preferred but not required.
- Experience: Customer services experience is preferred but not required. Interest in healthcare operations or patient engagement initiatives is beneficial.
- Personal Qualities: Strong communication skills, professionalism, and attention to detail. Ability to interact positively with patients and staff while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
